I run workshops to introduce indigo dyeing and shibori, from my new home in Littlebury near Saffron Walden England.
See the Contact page for a map link and directions.
Come and enjoy a creative day using the cottons, silk scarves etc I can provide for you!
Or bring your white shirts, T-shirts etc and transform your wardrobe for the summer! Learn about this magical blue dye and how to use it on cottons and silks, using Japanese shibori techniques. Design your own scarf or cushion cover or make experimental pieces for patchwork or embroidery work. Why not get a group of friends together?
In small friendly groups you will be assured of as much individual attention as you need.
Do you belong to a textile guild or group e.g. G.S.W.D., embroiderers, quilters, etc? I can come an give a talk to your group on indigo and shibori, with or without a follow-up workshop.

WORKSHOP OUTLINE
Come and experience for yourselves the magic of indigo.
We will look at examples of indigo dyeing and talk about the different shibori techniques. I'll tell you how an indigo vat works. Most people then make up a sample piece of cotton using the stitching techniques (you may also bring pre-prepared shibori stitched pieces). If you have a project or clothes you want to dye/transform - (white or light-coloured cotton or silk etc), bring them. We might go on to further shibori techniques, e.g. folding and clamping (itajime) and pole-wrapping (arashi). I shall have some scarves and cotton bags to dye that you can buy (cost price) from me.
A feature on Indigo-dyeing headed 'New Skills' – appeared in an issue of Elledecoration publicising available courses – bookings are coming in fast!

WORKSHOPS
MOVING HOUSE
Workshops suspended indefinitely.
Contact me to be put on my mailing list.
Workshops to introduce you to indigo-dyeing and classic shibori techniques continue on a rather reduced scale from our new home in Littlebury, also near Saffron Walden. We are only a mile or so away from Audley End station - an hour from Liverpool Street, should you be coming from London, and 15 miles from Cambridge. Contact me by email or phone to arrange a mutually convenient date. Time for one more in October, then re-starting in the Spring.
